Barbizon of Boston alum Tina Martin is an inspiration and has been busy building a name for herself as a television anchor, host and reporter. During her career, she has been featured in various magazines and newspapers including Boston Magazine, Jet Magazine, Plus Model Magazine and the Boston Herald.\r\n\r\nAfter receiving a degree in broadcast journalism from Emerson College in Boston, Tina has been working for years as a radio and television reporter/anchor. Her radio work during the 2004 Democratic National Convention in Massachusetts won an Associated Press award in 2005. She is the first African American in that station’s history to win the award and made national headlines. More recently she was the weekend morning anchor and reporter for WFSB-TV, The CBS affiliate in Connecticut.\r\n\r\nTina Martin has received numerous professional awards and recognition throughout her career. She was voted Best Local TV Reporter by the readers of Hartford Magazine in the 2011 Best of Hartford Contest and was named one of Connecticut’s “Most Powerful and Influential Women of 2012” by the National Diversity Council.\r\n\r\nDuring her time at Barbizon, Tina was voted Miss Photogenic in her Barbizon graduating class. “The instructors at Barbizon were extremely encouraging and helped me build confidence at a very young age. They saw something very special in me. I’m thankful my parents decided to send me after meeting with the staff,” said Tina.\r\n\r\nTina is a big proponent of building self esteem among young people and offers the following advice for teens and kids trying to figure out what they want to be when they grow up: “If you’re unsure of what you want to be; pay close attention to the things you do the best with the least amount of effort… Those are your gifts.
