Having a solid monologue is an important part of the audition process. You’ll want to have a few different monologues memorized (in case casting directors want to hear more than one from you).

\r\nHere are a few tips to help get your monologues up to par!\r\n

    \r\n

  • Select monologues that make sense for your age.\r\nIn order for your monologue to be impactful, you’ll want to select ones that are roles you could believably play.
  • \r\n

  • Make sure it is interesting.\r\nCasting directors have to listen to many monologues in the course of a day. You’ll want to pick monologues that are short, allow you to showcase a variety of emotions and ones that allow your character to evolve as they would if it were a short story.
  • \r\n

  • Don’t over act.\r\nIt can be tempting to cry or shout during a monologue, but you need to be careful not to over act a scene. A monologue can be captivating by a good actor who doesn’t need to use extreme emotions when they aren’t necessary.
  • \r\n

  • Speak clearly.\r\nBe sure to enunciate your words and speak at a rhythm that is appropriate for the monologue delivery.
