What Are Polaroids And Why Do Agencies Still Use Them?

Modeling

By: Kristina Anderson, Barbizon International

Polaroids, sometimes known as ‘digitals’ in today’s modeling world, are unfiltered pictures of what a model looks like completely natural. These images don’t necessarily need to be taken with a Polaroid camera anymore and can be shot with a digital camera.

Polaroids are important because they show agents, managers, and casting directors what the model looks like as a blank canvas before makeup, wardrobe, and lighting, all of which can have an impact on his or her appearance. A model’s digitals should always reflect what he or she currently looks like. Haircuts, piercings, weight change, and growth spurts all mean that new digitals should be taken. Even without any major physical changes a model should take new polaroids a few times a year to be sure they are always recent and accurate.divlineSchedule an audition time to learn more and get started with Barbizon’s modeling and acting program!  Schedule Your Barbizon Audition
